ROB SAEMANN ANNOUNCES RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN FOR CITY COUNCIL
HERMOSA BEACH, CA — Hermosa Beach City Councilmember and 2026 Mayor Rob Saemann today announced his campaign for re-election to the Hermosa Beach City Council, pointing to his first-term record, and the value of his experience across key
"Fifty years in construction taught me one thing above all: you plan the work, and you work the plan," Saemann said. "That's what I've brought to City Hall — the discipline of finishing what you start, spending taxpayer money like it's your own, and telling residents the truth. There's more work to do, and I'm asking Hermosa voters for the chance to keep doing it. I am the only candidate who has real experience in construction, cost management, land use and planning. Hermosa will need that experience as it tackles the challenges of the next four years."
Saemann's first term has produced measurable results across the priorities voters said mattered most.
Under Saemann's recent leadership as Mayor, Hermosa reopened the Clark Building after years of stalled renovation, resurfaced nearly two miles of city streets, repaired critical sewer lines, and completed the Parking Lot C repairs. Projects that had drifted for years finally moved.
"For too long, Hermosa's infrastructure projects have suffered from delays and cost overruns," Saemann said. "That's not acceptable when we're spending taxpayer money. As a contractor, I know what good project management looks like. I brought that discipline to City Hall, and it's working."
Defending local control. Saemann has emerged as one of Hermosa's most active voices in regional and state policy conversations. As Hermosa's delegate to the South Bay Cities Council of Governments, he is helping shape the SBCCOG's 2026 legislative agenda on state housing reform, including the council's push to replace the state's one-size-fits-all Regional Housing Needs Assessment framework with a model that reflects the realities of small, built-out coastal cities. His participation in the SBCCOG regional housing trust brings Hermosa a seat at the table where affordable housing decisions across the sub-region are being made.
"Hermosa Beach knows what's best for Hermosa Beach — not Sacramento." Saemann said. "From e-bikes to housing to how we manage our downtown, we need leaders who fight for local decisions. I'll keep amplifying our voice wherever those decisions get made."
Thoughtful development. Saemann has consistently opposed the kind of high-rise, out-of-scale projects that would fundamentally change Hermosa Beach's character, while supporting the smart, community-serving development that generates the revenue needed to fund infrastructure, public safety, and city services.
Saving the Pier. Saemann is campaigning for investing in the Hermosa Beach Pier — the community's most iconic landmark. His campaign will continue to advocate for the funding strategies and project management discipline needed to preserve the Pier for future generations.
Before his election to the City Council in 2022, Saemann served two years on the Public Works Commission and eight years on the Hermosa Beach Planning Commission. In addition to his council service, he is President of the Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Club, which has directed thousands of dollars to South Bay charitable causes and provides scholarships for local students and young adults entering the workforce.
Over his fifty-year career in construction, Saemann has built and remodeled dozens of residential and commercial projects across Hermosa Beach — custom homes, multi-family developments, and restaurants. He knows the city one building at a time.
"Hermosa Beach has been given extraordinary gifts," Saemann said. "It's our job to cherish them, improve them, and pass them on better than we found them. That means investing in the infrastructure that keeps our city safe and beautiful. It means keeping government responsive to residents and businesses. It means protecting public safety while building community trust. And it means making smart financial choices that balance today's needs with tomorrow's opportunities. That's the work. That's what I'm asking to keep doing."
